Rabbit facts from NBC26 - Green Bay, WI:
With a gestation period of only 31 days it’s not surprising that throughout history the rabbit has been seen as a symbol for fertility.
Teeth grow throughout their life, thus necessitating constant chewing to keep them from growing too long.
A pet rabbit can live as long as 10 years.
The largest number of kits ever born in a litter is 24!
The only place a rabbit sweats is through the pads on its feet.
Domestic rabbits cannot breed with wild rabbits.
A four pound rabbit will drink as much water as a 20 pound dog.
Does do not pick up and move their rabbits like dogs or cats. Therefore, if a kit is born outside of the nest you must move it to the nest for the rabbit.
Rabbits are born hairless and blind. Their eyes do not open until they are 10-14 days old.
The mother doe will pull hair from her chest to line her nest making her nest a nice warm place for her kits.
A male rabbit is a buck, a female rabbit is a doe, the baby rabbit is a kit (short for kitten) and the kits collectively are referred to as a litter.

Nicholson says Rabbit Island’s name has long been a topic of conversation and conjecture.
“It may have been at a Rotary meeting some years ago but somebody suggested that a rabbit swam over there,” he said.
“And I remember there was a bunch of us who started laughing because rabbits don’t swim.”
Nicholson heard a more plausible answer a few years later.
He heard Rabbit Island got its name because someone had taken a rabbit to the island to let it loose.
“Whether that’s true or not I don’t know,” added Nicholson.
